CBHA Announces Team Canada Women's GM

2014-04-19

The CBHA is proud to announce Gwen Ranquist-Lemieux as the new General Manager of the Women's National Team

The CBHA is proud to announce Gwen Ranquist-Lemieux as the new General Manager of the Women's National Team. Gwen’s resume houses the pedigree that Canada needs to keep the Canadian Women at the top of the World stage. Her goal will be to amass another first class team to embark upon a journey to the Zug ball hockey village that is being prepared for 2015.  This contingent will be challenged once again to defend its Gold performance against the ever-improving Women's World level.

Hailing from the beautiful province of British Columbia, Gwen has been at the high performance end of our game since the 90's.  She has won a National championship with the Richmond Vikings in 94, and many silver medals to go along with it.  As a Head Coach, she led a Canadian contingent to win a World Cup in Pittsburgh in 2005. That World Cup exposure led to her next adventure when the USA called upon her for her highly respected experience to help bring the Women’s USA program forward and compete at the 2007 ISBHF World Championships in Ratingen, Germany.

Against a strong field, Gwen’s past National team and high performance experience in both ball and ice hockey and her drive to lead Canada, won her the GM position.  Gwen’s passion to build a team on speed, talent and teamwork is evident in her message to all players across the country:  “I am excited to be the next GM of Women’s Team Canada and work closely with the players and staff that are the next ambassadors of our game.  The pride of representing your country on the world stage is second to none so ask yourself this, ‘do I have what it takes and am I doing everything possible to prepare myself to play at the world level as a member of Team Canada?’  If you do, we would like to hear from you.”

CBHA President Shelley Callaghan says "As a prominent champion for women’s ball hockey in Canada and internationally, the CBHA in honoured to have Gwen take on the GM position for Women’s Team Canada. The Canadian women are the team to beat in Zug in 2015 and Gwen is ready and focused for this great challenge.  We wish Gwen all the best as she builds her amazing team of players and staff to compete for Gold in Switzerland”.
