2014 Eastern Regionals A Success

2014-08-18

Eastern's 2014 left all members of our 5 Eastern provinces happy with the ball hockey and the venue's provided by NBBHA for the 2014 Eastern Regionals.

What the fans and viewers with our partner Bell Aliant witnessed on our Internet sport node was that the teams were ready to battle for Gold.

In the Men's B and Men's C New Brunswick served notice that it has a new generation of speedy and skilled players who are under the age of 22-23 and are (a) fast (b) skilled and (c) hungry to win.  Most Wanted dismantled a game NL Moneysaver team in front of a big crowd at Lord Beaverbrook Arena 9-4 dominating the game with those qualities in abundance.  Young stars Riley Craft, Matt Morrehouse, Mackenzie Kiersted led the offence with QB and leading scorer Andrew Stewart setting and providing dimes for hungry scorers to complete.  At the back David Crossman and Brad Bagder two young stud Dmen in front of Troy Reardon stymied a NL offence led my National Champions Sean Wadden and Ryan Granham.  Most Wanted completed its undefeated weekend perfectly and met all challengers with its relentless running and skilled game.

In the Men's C all weekend it looked like 2 time World Champion Jason Baiani and member of Team Canada Masters would team with young star players Justin Morris, Luke Williams and Mario Babineaux in the twinned cage to garner gold for Moncton.  But a determined Saint John Mustangs team kept getting better game by game.  Sliding by a very good young team from Nova Scotia Ashdale Eagles in the semi-finals 3-2.   Led by stars Ernie Roy, Ryan Langan and Randy Gilmore and backed stopped by tourney MVP Andrew Gaunce this team peaked right at the right moment.  The winning goal scored by veteran Bobby Craft against there rival Moncton and a 3-1 victory.  Needless to say this team will be building for a solid future as a strong Eastern team for all our provinces to deal with in the years ahead.

In the East D new team to CBHA events battled closely and tightly through the preliminary.  But all onlookers through the preliminary saw that the best team was the Montreal Bramabulls but they could only muster one win and two ties.  This young team was battling other types of distractions besides the good teams they had to deal with like the HAF Hockey team from Ontario and the Flyers and Panthers from NB.  At the right time they found focus in the semi-final and led by veteran and tourney leading scorer Mike Richards they dismantled the Moncton Panthers.  This led then to meet with the upstart HAF team who beat the Saint John Flyers in there semi-finals.  Just like the Mustangs in C, the Bramabulls found there stride mostly because of focus, and the solid goaltending of diminutive pepperpot Anthony Greco.  This acrobatic goalie provided the wall and then allowed slick Domenic Grosso, Mario Agiris and Richards to offensively dismantle young HAF.  The Bramabulls of QC took home Gold in the East D.
