Canada Looks to Lebrun to return to Gold

2014-05-29

Men’s Team Canada GM Jeff Dzikowicz sent out a call for applicants to see who was up for the challenge of leading the National Men's Team for the 2015 World Championships.

Against a very strong field of coaching applicants from all over the CBHA, the newly minted GM conducted extensive interviews and made his first big move by signing one of the most legendary players of the CBHA history to lead his ship of warriors into battle against the ever improving World landscape of the ISBHF Men's A Division.

The new National Men’s Team Coach will be Mathieu Lebrun from our Quebec association.  This slick, highly skilled passer and effective ball hockey player has now been selected to lead the National Team.  Lebrun is a 3 Time World Champion, and 9 Time National Champion.  Besides the gifted offensive ball hockey mind he possesses, Mathieu is someone who has won at the highest level as a player.  His record speaks for itself.  It is one of Golden excellence.  He has winning at our sport imprinted in his mind and is ready to share this with the CBHA players who earn the National team sweater.

“I was very impressed with Mathieu’s knowledge of the game and his thirst for Gold in Zug.  Players that are fortunate enough to be part of Team Canada will feel this passion, drive and determination and will elevate their play as a result.  Canada needs to be great to win Gold in Zug and Mathieu knows what it takes to make that a reality”, says GM Jeff Dzikowicz.

Lebrun will no doubt dip into the recipe of skill, speed, discipline and ball control that led his National teams, and legendary Red Lite teams to dominate the ball hockey World since 2000.  But don't doubt Lebrun's attention to detail and knowledge of the game on the defensive side as he also made an impressive run in his later years as a player from a offensive juggernaut winger, to a key National Champion defenseman.

CBHA President Shelley Callaghan says, “The CBHA is very excited to welcome Mathieu Lebrun as the Head Coach of Men’s Team Canada.  During his interview Mathieu talked about the importance of being a team on and off the slab and how being part of Team Canada is an experience a player will hold close to their heart forever.  There is no doubt that Mathieu has the knowledge on the floor to take on and win against teams in Zug but he also understands what it means to wear the maple leaf proudly and this passion is something he is very excited to share with the great players from coast to coast that will earn these coveted spots.”

Players from Coast to Coast will have to catch the eye of National Coach Lebrun as he builds his team that will be going into one of the most impressive fields ever assembled at the A Pool in Zug, Switzerland in 2015.  His track record is one of winning and the players should note that this Coach will be looking for players who are hungry to represent Canada, and win each shift on the floor.
