In Memorium - Jon Pickering

2021-04-30

Jon Pickering (“PICKS”) – It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of CBHA Hall of Famer Jon Pickering on Friday, April 9th, 2021 at the age of 63. Jon will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, friend and teammate...

Jon played for he Athletics/Top Guns in the Toronto Ball Hockey Association. Jon defined the image of the tough gritty defence man with the most accurate pass. The Top Guns went on to win 5 Ontario and 2 Canadian Championships.  A large  part of this is attributed to Jon’s talent as a player.  These skills were recognized when he received awards such as MVP and Top Scorer on more than one occasion.

When Jon’s playing career ended he was not prepared to simply hang up his sneakers. He moved over to the officiating side of the game. Jon not only passed the course to become a referee but ended up being an excellent one who’s consistent skills were in demand.  His referee career lasted for many years working both in the gym as well as the arena.  Jon learnt well.  His attention to detail and knowledge of the game enabled him to become an executive who ran his own successful league in Pickering.

In 2006 Jon was inducted into the Canadian Ball Hockey Hall of Fame. He was a high performance practitioner who simply go the job done. He was a very disciplined stay-at-home defenceman who played a tough but intelligent brand of ball hockey who exemplified poise and professionalism both on and off the floor.

Rest in peace Picks.
