Humboldt Broncos Tragedy Touches Our Ball Hockey Community

The Canadian Ball Hockey Association reflects on the Humboldt Broncos tragedy...
The Canadian Ball Hockey Association would like to extend their thoughts and prayers to all affected by the tragic events surrounding the Humboldt Broncos accident.
In the wake of this terrible tragedy which has touched so many Canadians and all hockey communities around the world. We would like to take a moment to mourn those within the Canadian Ball Hockey Association community who were lost and to pray for a speedy recovery for those who were injured.
Logan Schatz played in the Saskatoon Ball Hockey League within the Prairie Central Ball Hockey Association. Prairie Central President Dean Crossland stated “Logan was a good personal friend and teammate of mine, his brother Brandon is one of my dearest and closest friends in ice, ball hockey and life in general. Logan is known as one of the elite ice hockey players in Saskatchewan and Captain of the Humboldt Broncos; In the Ball Hockey World, it was no different, he represented Saskatchewan at the National level for both the Junior and Men’s Teams.
Logan also represented Canada at the World Ball Hockey Championships, on several occasions. He also helped coach our Under 15 Provincial Ball Hockey Team last year. As great of a player that he was, he was an even better person. He always had a smile on his face, respectful to everyone around him, had a great sense of humour and was just a great person to talk to. Logan was also a natural leader, his teammates all loved and respected him” and he will be sorely missed by all.

Logan Hunter played in the Edmonton Minor Ball Hockey League within the Alberta Minor Ball Hockey Association and is being remembered by family and friends as a passionate hockey player with a sharp sense of humour who was also an incredibly kind young man.
Evan Thomas played in the Saskatoon Ball Hockey League within the Prairie Central Ball Hockey Association. Evan had moved to Humboldt from his home in Saskatoon, more than 100 kilometres away. Evan will be remembered as a shy, respectful boy who was devoted to hockey, but also had hopes of becoming a doctor if his sporting career didn't take off.
Xavier Labelle plays in the Saskatoon Ball Hockey League within the Prairie Central Ball Hockey Association. Xavier was severely injured in the accident and is currently recovering from his injuries in hospital. Issac Labelle brother of Xavier stated " Xavier is an awesome kid. He is loved by so many. He influenced so many: Family, friends or strangers he is always someone you could always look up to and I’m proud to call him my brother. Xavier has played ball hockey his whole life and one of his favorite times of the year was ball hockey season. It was when all of our friends would get together and have a good time at the rink, I’ll never forget the times I get to spend with him there”. We all wish a full and speedy recovery for Xavier.
CBHA President Steve Power stated "This tragedy has affected all of us at the CBHA from coast to coast and our sincere condolences are extended to all involved. The CBHA ball hockey community will support our friends in Saskatchewan and Alberta in any we can and we will honour the memories of these young people this summer in our National Championships"!
