Junior Team Canada U18/U20 Announces Athletic Therapists and Equipment Managers

It is with great pleasure that on behalf of the CBHA and our Junior Team Canada U18 and U20...

It is with great pleasure that on behalf of the CBHA and our Junior Team Canada U18 and U20 families that I can announce our Junior Team Canada U18 and U20 Therapists/Equipment Managers for the 2018 ISBHF World Junior Championships being contested at home here in Canada July 4th-8th in St. John’s Newfoundland.

I would like to thank the 19 applicants and especially the dozen Gary and I interviewed.

Here is the JTC U18/U20 All Star Staff Lineup:


Ryan Bennett: Athletic Therapist Junior Team Canada U20
    
Ryan has an extensive amount  of elite Ice  and Ball Hockey experience having worked starting as an apprentice Athletic Therapist with the Edmonton Oilers in 2003 followed by 2 years as an assistant Medical Therapist with the Edmonton Oilers AHL team the  Hamilton Bulldogs. He progressed to Head Athletic Therapist positions with the Erie Otters OHL 2005-2007 followed by 7 years as Head Athletic Therapist with the Belleville Bulls OHL Major Jr. team. Mr. Bennett since 2015 has served as Head Athletic Therapist with the Kingston Frontenac’s OHL Hockey Club. Ryan has also done many major international events including OHL/OHF Program of Excellence and the Tretiak cup International Hockey Tournament in Moscow, Russia.

This will be Ryan’s 4th stint as a volunteer with Team Canada having worked with JTC U18 in 2014, Junior Team Canada U20 in 2016 (Silver Medal) and with Men’s Team Canada in 2017 (Silver Medal). Mr. Bennett has a Bachelor of Phys Ed degree from Brock University, hold certification as a Canadian Athletic Therapist (CAT), National Athletic Therapists association (ATC), certified strength and conditioning (CSCS) and as a registered Kinesiologist R. Kin in addition to several other certifications.

We are ecstatic to have Ryan with us as we Go for Gold in 2018.


Joseph Picko: Equipment Manager Junior Team Canada U20

Joseph has over 27 years’ experience with elite Junior hockey players as a Trainer and Equipment manager in the Under 16 Ice Hockey development camps and with the main camps developing players for Team Ontario. Mr. Picko has been involved for more than 17 years with Team Canada Ball Hockey Men’s , Juniors and Master’s programs  as a Trainer and Equipment Manager, which includes 5 Gold Medal World Championships 4 with Men’s team Canada and most recently Gold Medal World Champion with Junior Team Canada U18 2016 in Sheffield, England.

Joseph’s passion for the game has kept him involved at the various levels throughout the years and he looks forward to working with Junior Team Canada U20 in 2018. Joseph eagerly anticipates the moment  with these outstanding young group of players , standing proud as we watch the Canadian flag raised winning a Gold Medal championship.

JTC U20 is extremely pleased to have a gentlemen like Mr. Picko with us at the World’s in 2018.


Rolland Heider: Massage Therapist Junior Team Canada U18/U20:

Rolland is a former CIS Rugby player and CIS rowing team athlete who has worked as a Massage Therapist since 1998. Mr. Heider has worked at the Sports performance centers since 2004 and has an impressive background of experience with Professional sports first with the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL) in 2008, the ATP Men’s Rogers Cup Professional tennis every 2 years since 2004 and the last 2 seasons (2016/2017)as the Team Massage Therapist with the 2017 CFL GREY CUP Champion Toronto Argonauts.

Rolland has perhaps even a more impressive resume of service with various levels of World Championship Ball Hockey including Men’s World’s , Masters World’s and Junior Team Canada U16/U18/U20 in 2012 and 2014 helping those teams to numerous Gold Medal World Championships and other Medal winning performances.

The CBHA is glad to have the big guy back with us as we Go for World Championships Gold with JTC U18/U20 in 2018 here at home in St. John’s Newfoundland


Andrew Stagg: Equipment Manager Junior Team Canada U18

Andrew joins the Junior Team Canada U18 team as equipment Manager with a plethora of World Ball Hockey experience from 4 ISBHF World Championships starting with men’s in St. Johns 2013 and in Zug 2015 following that with World’s Masters Banff  in 2016 and Men’s again in Pardubice , Czech Republic in 2017. This native Newfoundlander has spent the last 7 years as staff in and out of Hockey dressing rooms ranging from Team Newfoundland provincial programs to assisting for 5 years with the St. Johns Ice Caps professional hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL) which included 2 late Calder Cup trophy runs and the International based AHL All Star game in 2014.

This will be Andrew’s 1st time with the Junior Team Canada program and with the advantage of hosting on home soil will look to help “raise the bar” of this outstanding program with his work ethic and professionalism.

We are glad to have this native Newfoundlander with us as we take on the World in July 2018 at the ISBHF World Junior Championships.


Brodie St. Jacques:  Athletic Therapist Junior Team Canada U18

Brodie brings great experience to Junior Team Canada first as an elite Ice and Ball hockey player having competed in the Alberta Cup in 2008, Team Alberta U16 and Team Alberta U17 (2009 and 2010) in addition to playing in Men’s Ball Hockey and at a National Championship in St. Johns Newfoundland.

Brodie brings great Junior Ball Hockey trainer experience having worked with the Edmonton and Alberta Xtreme U17 and U19 teams helping the U17 team win a 2017 Canadian Championship going undefeated in Kitchener.

Mr. St. Jacques brings several years of “AAA” Ice hockey experience first as Athletic Therapist/Equipment with Bantam AAA and progressing to Midget AAA. Brodie volunteered with Team Alberta U18 at the 2017 National Championships. St. Jacques is currently the Head Athletic Therapist with the Northern Alberta Xtreme academies 4 elite prep teams (AAA+) that compete in in the CSSHL and coordinates the training staff of all 4 teams while working numerous games/practices himself. Brodie brings an impressive collection of certifications to his role as Athletic Therapist including Kinesiology from Red Deer College and Sports Massage therapy from Makami College. He also holds certifications in Athletic Injury Management (SMCA), Taping and Strapping, Can-Fit Professional Personal Trainer to name a few.

We welcome Brodie to the Junior Team Canada family as we Go for World Gold in 2018 at the ISBHF World Junior Championships.
