Junior Team Canada U16 West & East Coaching Staff Announcement

It is with great pleasure to announce on behalf of the CBHA...

It is with great pleasure to announce on behalf of the CBHA, Junior Team Canada High Performance Committee and myself Gary Slavin, General Manager of the JTC U16 program the coaches that will be leading our West and East teams to the 2018 World Cup in Czech Republic next June. We had many applications from coast to coast and after a thorough process I am very happy having these six individuals come together as a “JTC family” and lead our announced player rosters into world competition. All our coaches have many years experience in our sport, and all bring strong knowledge of the game to our program, I’m very honored to have this ‘dream team’ coaching staffs in place as we take on the world on european soil.

Dave Weloy
U16 West Head Coach


Dave was born and raised in beautiful British Columbia and resides in the city of Maple Ridge. Dave, in his sixth year at junior nationals, coached the U17 TeamBC to a bronze in Waterloo this past August, his most memorable coaching experience was back in 2016 as head coach U18 Team Canada and clinching a gold championship. This will be Dave’s third world championship coaching in the JTC program, his first as the U16 head coach in 2014 where his squad took home a world silver in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Dave’s team moto - striving for excellence. His goal is to share memorable experiences with each teammate and their families on a quest towards winning a championship. Dave’s coaching style is to be a collaborative, decisive, fun leader with a vision of nothing less than success for his team. Away from the bench, Dave has been a technical director in his local association as well this past August, instructed a player development program and coaching clinic in the Falkland Islands. Dave is a passionate coach with high level technical skillsets.

Keith Reiter
U16 West Assistant Coach


Keith is from Edmonton, Alberta coaching the Edmonton Express this past season winning cities, western’s and nationals in the U15 division, looking forward to finish off with a gold at worlds. As a coach his motto is hard work and discipline, as a team he believes in motivating the players, keep things positive and have them play to the best of there abilities. Keith’s goals for the trip are for the players and other JTC staff have an experience that all can talk about in the years to come and making friends for a lifetime. There is nothing better than representing Canada, Keith is honored to represent Canada as a U16 West coach.

Jon Silcox
U16 West Assistant Coach


Jon has coached ten years in ball hockey including four westerns and five junior nationals. Jon expects the team to be the hardest working team everyday, no matter the result. Jon’s goal for this trip is to bond well with everyone in the program and enjoy an opportunity of a lifetime while creating great memories. Jon is a player / coach, as well as a high level official, who resides in BC. He works well with the players to earn their respect and create good lines of communication.

Thomas Walsh
U16 East Head Coach


Preparedness is the Ultimate Confidence Builder.” (Vincent Lombardi). Thomas Walsh resides in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador. This past summer Tom was GM for Women’s Team Canada (Czech Republic) and head coach of the NL U15 team (Kitchener, Ontario). His background includes GM / Coach at six international tournaments (4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze). Tom believes that it is important for all players and staff to plan and compete together. All players will contribute and find a role within the structure of JTC East U16. Thomas is a coach who promotes healthy living and focused training.
In the Czech Republic, Tom has a goal that his group will provide a top end performance while enjoying some of the attractions in the host country. Communication will be important to Tom and the U16 East staff over the upcoming months. All players and parents can expect to hear from the East staff in the near future and play a big part in preparing for this amazing opportunity. Preparedness is the Ultimate Confidence Builder.

Sean Price
U16 East Assistant Coach


Sean has been active in the game for over 20 years – as a player, with seven provincial titles, he played in the first world masters in Slovakia winning bronze. As a coach he’s guided his teams to two junior national bronze. As a “players coach” he listen’s and learn’s the personal story of each athlete and when that story becomes focused, he steps aside and the player takes over. His motto, a quote from Muhammad Ali “Champions are made from something they have deep inside them: a desire, a dream, a vision.” Being selected as part of the JTC staff is an honor, to be able to represent my country, my community and my family.

Ryan Morgan
U16 East Assistant Coach


Ryan, who was part of the U17 Newfoundland team coaching staff that participated at the recent 2017 junior nationals comes to the JTC program with a believe of three main words that brings the best in a group -  speed, compete & team. Play with speed, compete every shift every battle and play as a team - support each other on and off the floor. As a coach, Ryan believes in personal responsibility and accountability to yourself and the team and looks forward to this world experience.
