Womens Team Canada (Masters) Staff Announcement
2016-05-27General Manager Sara Hayward is thrilled to announce the staff that will be leading Women’s Masters Team Canada at the 2016 World Masters Ball Hockey Championships next week.
Hayward states, “I feel that through collaboration with the CBHA's High Performance Director, George Gortsos, we have selected incredibly strong staff with extensive high performance experience. I am confident in them as they lead this team as they defend their world championship”
Head Coach - Mandi Duhamel
A member of the CBHA for the past 7 years as a player, both in Ottawa and Calgary, Mandi is tremendously excited to take on the role of Head Coach with the Women’s Master Team Canada. Growing up in Lively Ontario, she played hockey in Sudbury, Mississauga and graduated as a Geegee from the University of Ottawa in 2008, then went on to play for the Ottawa Lady Senators of the CWHL. She has been coaching Ice hockey within the CIS since 2009 with the Carleton Ravens, uOttawa Geegees and currently with the University of Calgary Dinos. On the National level she was a member of the Ontario Blue coaching staff at the U18 female National Championships in 2009 and internationally joined the staff of the2011 Team Canada at the FISU Games in Erzurum, Turkey.
For the past 3 years Mandi has held the position of Manager of Female Development with Hockey Canada working everyday to grow the game of hockey from coast to coast for females.
Assistant Coach - Danika Smith
Danika is currently the student-athlete services and compliance officer for the University of Ottawa. She did her undergraduate degree in B.Sc. Human Kinetics in 2007 and completed her Masters in Intervention, Consultation in Sport, Physical Activity and Fitness in 2009.
Danika is the defence coach for the Nepean Wildcats Midget AA ice hockey team. She was named three times to the Canadian National Ball Hockey team and competed in three World Championship: Czech Republic, Slovakia and Newfoundland.
In her professional life, Danika was a member of the Canadian mission staff where she worked in Kazan, Russia at the World University games in 2013. Danika is also assisting the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport with policy guidelines to make sport accessible for transgendered athletes and is on the Board of Directors for the Ottawa Sports Awards.
Athletic Therapist - Carmen Chan
Carmen Chan graduated from Sheridan College with a Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences (Athletic Therapy). She went on to become certified as an Athletic Therapist through the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association. Carmen has worked with provincial hockey programs across Canada and travelled to the World Championships with the Canadian Deaf Hockey team.
She completed one season with the Okanagan Hockey Academy and the last two seasons at Portage College. She continues to broaden her experience by providing host medical services at the Canada Games in 2013 and 2015, Pan Am Games in 2015, 2015 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships and 2016 IIHF World Women's Hockey Championships.
