OBHF Receives Grant from Women in Sport Encouragement (WISE) Fund!

The Ontario Ball Hockey Federation is on a roll! They've just received a grant from the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) to help engage women in our great sport!

The Women in Sport Encouragement (WISE) Fund was created to support women leaders’ development and organizations that are currently offering or creating diverse opportunities and programming, along with positive experiences for girls and women in sport and physical activity building on Canadian Sport for Life.  Ten recipients will receive a grant of $1000 each to support professional development or programming - with the OBHF being one of them! 

“CAAWS with the support of Sport Canada is pleased to recognize the WISE Fund grant recipients for their efforts in building leadership skills as coaches or officials and in offering sport programs that will give girls and women an opportunity  to participate and develop, ” said CAAWS Executive Director, Karin Lofstrom.

The following recipients have been supported by their noted National Sport Organization:

·         Laura McPhie – Guelph, ON (Supported by Swimming Canada)

·         Niagara Falls Rowing Club – Niagara Falls, ON (Supported by Rowing Canada Aviron)

·         Ontario Ball Hockey Federation – Oakville, ON (Supported by Hockey Canada)

·         Tonya Derkson – Winnipeg, MB (Supported by the Canadian Soccer Association)

·         Victoria Synchro – Victoria, BC (Supported by Synchro Canada)

·         Women’s Sledge Hockey of Canada – Edmonton, AB (Supported by Hockey Canada)

 

The Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to creating an equitable sport and physical activity system in which girls and women are actively engaged as participants and leaders.  CAAWS provides a number of services, programs and resources to a variety of clients, including sport and physical activity organizations, teachers, coaches, athletes, volunteers, health professionals and recreation leaders.  Since 1981, CAAWS has worked in close cooperation with government and non-government organizations on activities and initiatives that advocate for positive change for girls and women in sport and physical activity.
