EUROPEAN OPPORTUNITIES for CBHA Members

2016-02-08

As a recognized force in the international sport of ball hockey, Canada - represented by the Canadian Ball Hockey Association as the National Governing body for the sport of ball hockey in Canada – is in constant communication with the leading Club-level teams in Europe.

Falling under the remit of the CBHA’s High Performance function, discussions with European Club teams have recently confirmed the desire to continue extending the opportunity for eligible Canadian athletes to develop their skills by playing in high-level European leagues.

This exchange program has been supported by the CBHA since 2005, and historically has resulted in athlete placement into some of the best European Club teams, namely in Switzerland and Germany.

The CBHA High Performance program continues to be supportive of this international opportunity as a development mechanism for Canadian ball hockey athletes, and is consequently calling for interested players.

Criteria:
  • To be considered, Canadian athletes must play at a CBHA National Championship or ISBHF World Championship level.
  • Such opportunities would typically be from one to three months in duration, and would be contract-based to remunerate eligible players for their performance.
  • All interested athletes must be a CBHA member in good standing.  In addition, athletes must get a letter of reference from their Provincial body.
  • Submission of a CV of the athletes playing credentials must be forwarded to the CBHA High Performance Director.
All submissions/applications will form a database that the CBHA will make available to it’s International sport partners.

Considered “semi-pro”, this exchange program calls on the great working relationships between the CBHA High Performance program and the key stakeholders from our National teams to discover Canadian talent that will be major contributors in seeing European Club teams reach their own peak performance. Further, European teams will evaluate an athlete’s sport skill and performance via online video feeds, and/or live at ISBHF World Championships.

Applications should be sent directly to the CBHA High Performance Director, George Gortsos at hpdirector@cbha.com.

Only athletes meeting the above criteria are able to be considered.
