CBHA Announces Medical/Therapist Junior Team Canada staff
2015-12-07Junior Team Canada General Manager, Norm Spitzer announces Medical/Therapist team for Junior Team Canada who are bound for Sheffield, UK with the JTC crew for next year’s ISBHF World Junior Championships July 6th – 12th.
Justin Parsons MSc PT, BSc HKin, Physiotherapist, Junior Team Canada U16:
Justin is currently employed as a Physiotherapist for WorkSafe NB specializing in treating chronic injuries and mild traumatic brain injuries (concussions). Prior to this he worked for 7 years in a busy private practice setting with a focus on treating young athletes, Justin has also worked as a rehabilitation consultant with the Saint John Sea Dogs (QJMHL), prior to that was the Head Therapist for the Saint John Midget AAA program from 2008-2011.
Mr. Parsons most recently was the Physiotherapist for the Canada Women’s National Ball Hockey team that won GOLD at the 2015 ISBHF World Championships. Justin has also worked as the Head Therapist for the Rothesay Netherwood School, a private school with a strong athletic and academic focus with competitive teams in Hockey, Soccer and Rugby. Justin graduated with his Masters in Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University in 2008 and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Human Kinetics from St. FX in 2005. Junior Team Canada is very proud and honoured to have Mr. Parsons with us as we Go for Gold next July in England.
Christian Wilson, CCRN, SFR(c) Medical Therapist, Junior Team Canada U18:
Christian volunteered at the JTC High Performance camp this past June in Caledon, Ontario and he also was one of 4 Athletic Trainers representing Canada at the 2012 Under 18 High Performance camp in Vierumaki, Finland. Mr. Wilson has more than 10 years’ experience working with elite hockey players and currently serves as Assistant Therapist with the Kingston Frontenacs (Major Junior) of the OHL Ontario Hockey League, prior to that he filled the same role with the Belleville Bulls of the OHL (2011-2015). He previously has served as the Head Trainer of the Trenton Golden Hawks of the Ontario Junior Hockey league. He has also participated in many OHL/OHF Under 15 High Performance camps.
Christian initially attended Sports Injury Management at Sheridan College, he then attended Loyalist College where he studied Nursing. Mr. Wilson has obtained numerous certifications including Sport First Responder, Critical Care, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support to name a few and he currently resides in Belleville, Ontario. We are very excited to have an individual of Christian’s qualifications, experience and skills on board with us as our Junior Team Canada teams take on the World next July in England!
Ryan Bennett, CAT(c), ATC, CSCS Athletic Therapist, Junior Team Canada U20:
Ryan was the Athletic Therapist for the Junior Team Canada U18 team at the ISBHF World Junior Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia and he was also the Head Therapist at the JTC High Performance Camp this past June in Caledon, Ontario. Mr. Bennett’s International experience includes being the Athletic Therapist with Team Canada at the IIHF World U18 Hockey Championships in Belarus and winning Gold with the GTHL Bantam AAA Selects in the 2007 Tretiak Cup in Moscow. Ryan was also honoured as the Athletic Therapist for the 2009 OHL Eastern Conference All-Star team and as Athletic Therapist with the Eastern Conference Champion Belleville Bulls (OHL) in the 2008 Memorial Cup in Kitchener, Ontario. Ryan has more than 15 years’ experience as a Therapist with elite Hockey players and is currently in his 11th season as a Head Athletic Therapist in the (OHL) Ontario Hockey League; 2 in Erie, 8 in Belleville and is currently in his first in Kingston with the Frontenacs.
Preceding Major Junior, Ryan worked in the American Hockey League (AHL) for 3 seasons with the Edmonton Oilers affiliates 2 in Hamilton and 1 in Toronto as an Assistant Athletic Therapist and Assistant Equipment Manager.
Ryan is a certified Athletic Therapist in Canada (CATA) and Athletic Trainer in the United States (NATA) and also holds the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist credential from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Mr. Bennett earned a degree in Physical and Health Education from Brock University and a Diploma in Sports Injury Management from Sheridan College. He currently resides in Kingston with his wife Sarah and daughter Shelby. The CBHA and JUNIOR TEAM CANADA is excited and honoured to have Mr. Bennett with us leading up to and competing at the ISBHF World Junior Championships next July in England!
