Western Challenge Cup Confirmed As Scouting Event For the 2016 Edition of Junior Team Canada
Junior Team Canada Scouts confirmed to be on the lookout for talent at upcoming BC event, as local event organizers look forward to participation of out-of-province teams.
Vancouver, BC, April 11, 2015– If there was ever a perfect time to visit Vancouver and its surrounding areas, mid-July would be it and fortuitously the 2015 Western Cup Challenge tournament will take place in Surrey, British Columbia at exactly that time. Team registrations open imminently.
On 16th to the 19th of July, junior players from across Western Canada will compete to take home the prestigious Western Challenge Cup, and CBHA scouts will be on the sidelines looking for the next generation of ball hockey superstars. Organizers of the event are in the process of securing professional commentators, play-by-play announcers and special guests to do ball-drops. Further, they are looking to provide online broadcasting of playoff games, making it a players event not to be missed.
“Back in 1999, the Minor Ball Hockey associations of BC and Alberta founded the Western Challenge Cup to challenge skilled minor ball hockey athletes by offering high-level competition against out-of-province teams. These days we welcome Saskatoon and Manitoba to come along also in order to give their athletes the same opportunity to play high-level competition against teams they wouldn’t normally play against – it makes all of our athletes better players in the end.” says Surrey Minor Ball Hockey organizer, Jorge Silvestre. “A best case scenario for our athletes and the competition right now would be to have 10 to 12 teams from Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan attend to supplement the 30 to 32 teams from BC, providing Junior Team Canada scouts with a true range of talent to watch for.”
With four guaranteed games for all participating teams, and five age divisions – U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19 – the most critical item on the agenda is now ensuring all teams register to participate, and act quickly to secure accommodation in the area in order to protect the pricing discounts that have been arranged by the organizing team for the WCC.
“We have locked in preferential pricing at a number of local hotels, and every one of them represents great value for money – obviously that’s a concern for us when sourcing places to stay for WCC understanding we are asking teams to travel out-of-province in some cases”, says Jorge. “With registrations now open for the competition, we are encouraging folks to be really quick at reserving rooms so that they can enjoy the great pricing we’ve negotiated for everyone, particularly folks interested in the Sheraton properties as they are unable to hold room inventory for us for much longer”.
