CBHA Prepares To Roll Out High Performance Camps Across Canada

CBHA High Performance Director, George "Coach" Gortsos, rallies the troops

High Performance Director, George Gortsos, is in the final stages of planning with the CBHA to roll-out a series of High Performance Camps that will aim to teach the Team Canada style of ball hockey to players across the country.

Vancouver, BC, April 2, 2015 – Officially recognised by Hockey Canada as the governing body of ball hockey in Canada, The Canadian Ball Hockey Association (CBHA) is in the final stages of its planning for the roll-out of its new High Performance Training Camps.

An invitation to Provinces across the country will soon be issued in order to secure Host locations for the Camps. They will offer ball hockey athletes the unparalleled opportunity to learn the style, systems and strategies of Team Canada from the CBHA’s new High Performance Director, George Gortsos. Further, the camps aim to create visibility for players who aspire to be scouted for National teams, and perhaps one day even play for Team Canada internationally.

The CBHA’s High Performance Camps mirror Hockey Canada’s highly successful “Camp of Excellence”. Participants will undergo fitness testing, a lecture on “What It Takes” to be an elite-level player, practice sessions, dedicated coaching, post-camp feedback, and play in exhibition games where new talent will be keenly watched for. Further, participants will walk away with a full Team Canada uniform and apparel kit from CBHA partner, LIKA Sports.

“Mark my words - the High Performance Camps are going to be a game-changer for Canada’s ball hockey athletes. The camps are structured to provide the total “Team Canada Experience” and to teach the style of ball hockey that saw Canada dominate the game. We were a force to be reckoned with, and with initiatives like the High Performance Camps in our arsenal, we will continue to be”, Says George Gortsos, High Performance Director at the CBHA.

Provinces wishing to act as Host for High Performance Camps will need to provide floor time and basic administration support. In return, the CBHA is offering Host organizations up to fifty percent of the net revenue generated by the Camps. The remaining funds will be reinvested into the continued development of Team Canada.

Says Shelley Callaghan, President of the CBHA, “The CBHA is on the cusp of an exciting new era, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. George brings an incredible wealth of proven knowledge and expertise to the CBHA with his appointment of High Performance Director. Together, George, myself and the CBHA as an organization, are totally invested in raising the sport to unparalleled new heights and in helping our Canadian ball hockey athletes gain the skills they need to be the best in the world”.

The Canadian Ball Hockey Association

It is officially recognized as the governing body of the sport in Canada by Hockey Canada, and the International Street & Ball Hockey Federation.

With an expected 50,000 players for the 2015 season, the CBHA is experiencing 100% growth in participation in some Provinces, year on year without any active marketing drives to date.

Team Canada is made up of 50 of the country’s best male and female ball hockey players and in June 2015, they will compete on the world stage at the 2015 World Championships being held in Zug, Switzerland.
