Red Lite Wins Their 10th National Title In Saskatoon

2014-08-23

Since the beginning of the millennium, Quebec ball hockey has dominated at the Men's National level by capturing 11 titles.

As any truly historic champion in sports, the 2014 Montreal Red Lite club will be remembered for its success. Its one thing to get to your main objective through hard work and adversity but the Montreal Red Lite made things look a little easier compared to most competitions. After cruising through four round robin games for a perfect 4-0 record, the legendary squad allowed all but one tally by their final game versus the Saskatoon Buffalo. With scoring power not being an issue, the Montreal Red Lite used there 21 goals for and 1 goal against round robin numbers to carry them into the most important part of the tournament.

The Red Lite continued their good play in the first round of the playoffs routing the Saskatoon Buffalo with an easy 6-0 victory. There next opponent featured the Niagara Rebels, and despite taking the match as they expected, this contest was far from being a walk in the park. Although it was expected to get more difficult moving forward, the Montreal Red Lite did find a way to edge their Ontario rival in a semi final match up by the score of 4-3. Leaving only one task to complete a perfect journey, the 10 time National Champions got it done with an exclamation point. The Newfoundland & Labrador Black Horse also had a good run making it to the finals, but were clearly no match when all was said and done. From start to finish, the Montreal Red Lite dominated their maritime counter part posting up an impressive ten goals while conceding only one. Nelson-Vargas Dias gave his club the start they needed riffling three goals for a 5-0 lead and Samuel Beauchamp made the necessary saves allowing only one tally when the score was 7-0.

After so many great achievements and dominance from the year 2000, when you’re the Montreal Red Lite and the bar is set as high as it is, anything less than a title, is itself a failure.

Congratulations to the Montreal Red Lite. The Quebec Ball Hockey Association continues to be a dominant force at the Men's National level. In the last 15 years, Quebec teams have captured 11 out of 15 National titles since the year 2000.
