2014 Western Regionals Men's C Champs - Wheat City Wildcats

The 2014 Western Canadian Regional Championhips were hosted this past weekend in the prairie city of Regina, Saskatchewan.

Six of Western Canada's best Men's C Teams were there to represent their provinces proudly and enjoy a little of what this great prairie city has to offer.

With six teams vying for the championship we had some great round robin and playoff games. The Calgary Crusaders went undefeated in the round robin in Division 1 with the Wheat City Wildcats finishing second. Division 2 saw the Winnipeg Goodfellas finished first in Division 1 with a 2-1 record with the Calgary Cobra Kai finishing second.

The first semi final saw an all Alberta battle with Calgary Cobra Kai facing the Calgary Crusaders. The first period was scoreless as the Cobra Kai successfully killed off two penalties. The Crusaders scored 0:21 into the second frame follwed by a second goal with 7 minutes let in the game. Calgry Cobra Kai managed to get one back with just over 3 minutes remaining but te Calgary Crusaders held on for a 2-1 victory and advancing to the Gold Medal game.

In the second semi final saw an all Manitoba affair as the Wheat City Wildcats squared off vs the Winnpieg Goodfellas. The teams traded goals in the first period which ended in a 1-1 tie. The Wheat City Wildcats however exploded with four goals in the second period with Tyler Woods scoring the first three goals and assisting on the fourth as the Wildcats defeated the Goodfellas 5-1 to move on to the championship game.

The championship game saw the Wheat City Wildcats vs. Calgary Crusaders. The Wildcats took the lead with two goals in the first period. The Crusaders struck first in the second and then traded goals throught the final period to finish up with a 4-2 win for the 2014 Champion Wheat City Wildcats.
